New Favorite Shirt
I dyed this on NYE 2021 and finished processing it on January 1st, making it my very first New Favorite Shirt of 2022. It’s also the first New Favorite Shirt in general.
This is a new thing I’m trying. No more tie dye superstore, just one (1) New Favorite Shirt at a time.

I really like this shirt because it uses a series of opposing colors from top to bottom, a new dye pattern for me. Funny thing is I dyed this along with 5 other shirts that night and this was the only one I didn’t go into with a color plan. I’ve been working with simpler color palettes lately, usually just a pair of colors on each shirt that I think/hope go well together. Thought I’d try doing a little bit of each pairing I’d applied to the other shirts in that batch and BOOM! New Favorite Shirt.

As for musical inspiration, I was listening to Grateful Dead Live in Dijon, France on September 18, 1974 when I dyed this. I’m mostly into the improvisational stuff in the longer songs and this show has more than a couple of great examples of that. The Eyes of The World Youtube below is one of them.

One really cool thing about this show is that the seeds of Shakedown Street start to sprout up around 12:45 of PITB.
This show is also noteworthy for involving the Wall of Sound in front of a smallish crowd.
Also, Ned Lagin performs with the band.

Anyway, this shirt is a LARGE 100% Cotton Hanes Beefy T. It took roughly $20 worth of materials and about 6 hours of prep/tie/dye/finish work to complete. It’s one of a kind and built to last, made with professional quality Procion MX fiber reactive dyes and a finishing process I’ve dialed in to ensure deep, vibrant colors that will remain vibrant long after the first trip through the washing machine. Price includes free shipping in the United States. Please contact me for shipping to other locations.
